Of course, Arabic and English are very different languages! Learning any language is difficult, but for many students the countless grammar rules are the hardest part.
So, after analyzing many, many Arabic-speaking IELTS candidates, in both the Speaking and Writing exams, I’ve come up with the 4 most common grammar mistakes that are made.
“I have more homework.”
“More” does not mean “a lot” or “many”! More is only used as a comparative. For example: “My house in Saudi Arabia has more bedrooms than my apartment in Seattle.”
“I have a lot of homework; because that, I am tired at night.”
You cannot say “because that”. You must say, “because of that.” For example: “I have a lot of homework; because of that, I am tired at night.”
Missing the verb “be”
Remember, every sentence in English has a subject and a verb. You cannot say, “My teacher good.” You must say, “My teacher is good.”
Noun + adjective
In English, the adjective goes before the noun. You cannot say, “teacher good”. You must say, “good teacher.”
